Summer Camp weekend is upon us!

July 25, 2013

Dear Jane Austen Summer Camp attendees,

We’re so pleased you will be spending time with us at the conference this weekend. Here are a few last minute details to make your conference special.

Arrivals:

Check-in at the Inn at Middletown (70 Main Street, Middletown) is 3 p.m. Registration begins Friday at 6 p.m. or soon after in the Foyer on the second level. The Inn is fully booked for our weekend, so if you plan to have dinner at the Inn on Friday night before our lecture at 7:30 p.m., make a reservation. Directions and information can be found on the hotel’s website: http://www.innatmiddletown.com/. Valet parking is included with every admission except Austenland movie passes. Drive up to the Inn’s front circle and let them know you are with the Jane Austen conference.

Camp Store:

The camp store will be open at times throughout the conference. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
We are also pleased to announce  that Ciarrai Studios has designed a new necklace, Mr. Darcy’s Heart, which debuts at Jane Austen Summer Getaway. A silent auction will be held for the Mr. Darcy’s Heart necklace during the conference.

Costume:

Regency costume is welcome and encouraged throughout the conference, as is modern dress. If you don’t have a Regency outfit for the ball, just wear something festive that will allow you to dance comfortably without tripping. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

Saturday workshops:

Saturday workshops are hands-on (unless you wish to simply observe, which is fine). The reticule and wallet workshop involves hand-sewing, just as Jane Austen would have done (no prior knowledge is expected). The hairstyles workshop is best enjoyed by attempting the styles shown on your own hair. Here is a list of supplies you may wish to bring: https://jasnactsummercamp.wordpress.com/2013/06/28/summer-getaway-workshop-how-to-do-the-hair-do-of-the-day/

There will also be Regency-themed raffle drawings on Saturday and Sunday.

Registration is now closed. We cannot accept walk ins at the  door.
If you have questions as you travel to the conference, you can call or text Caitlin at (203) 218-6930 or Susan 203-788-7236
Finally, you may want to tuck a Regency limerick into your valise. You never know when one might come in handy! (Hint, hint!)
Just one more day until we’re all enjoying a weekend of Regency festivity!
Warmest regards,
Caitlin Augusta and Susan Read Conference Co-Chairs
